Following the publicised report from the IPCC. regarding the mis-handling of a silent 999 call, believed to have been generated from the Ding family home, issues of ‘What if’ have arisen. These what ifs all relate to the personal safety of NHW Coordinators or members of NHW schemes. Such an example given was as follows:
Should I be walking past a house and heard screams or something giving rise to believe some one may be in difficulty and in need support, it would be natural to offer help, but would I be in danger by doing so?.
Well the definitive answer is YES you may be putting yourself in danger! therefore the safe and appropriate action is for you to make a 999 call to the police. Advise them of what you heard, the full location of this occurrence, make a note of any vehicle registration numbers parked near by. Move away from the property to a safer location. However, if possible, keep the property in your view and note anyone who may leave, including the direction they take. And of course should they drive off try to note the registration. Now wait for the police to arrive and give them the details.
Whilst this may sound Callas, it always remains the better option to have only one casualty, than to add to the list by inappropriate action.
Remember! Stay Safe, Stay Secure, Stay alive.

As time is drawing even closer, it is worth remembering that in June of 2012 we can all participate in a nationwide birthday party. This coming June we can celebrate the 30th. birthday of Neighbourhood Watch UK. As many of you may recall the history, NHW came across the pond in June 1982 and started off in a village called Mollington in the county of Cheshire. We can all hold some form of party, street, garden, tea or some other form of party and celebrate the birth of a national organisation that we can be extremely proud of. This is a wonderful opportunity to not only fly our proud NHW logo, but to enhance even greater community spirit. Have a go, have some fun and strengthen your community resilience to crime and the fear of crime. Congratulations to one and all for your hard work and have a wonderful and happy birthday.

It is likely that you will remember the horrific murders of the entire Ding family of Wooton, Northampton. This family comprising Mr. Jeff Ding, Mrs. Helen Ding and their two beautiful daughters, 12 year old Alice, and 18 year old Xing. The family were indeed loved and respected by all those who new them. Alice and Xing were truly very talanted and had bright futures ahead of them until they were all brutally murderd by suspect Mr. Anxiang Du on the day of the royal wedding, Friday 29th April 2011. It is believed that this terrible event took place between 3 and 4pm. The suspect is believed to have made his escape using a car hired out to the Ding family. This being a Vauxhall Corsa registration number BG60 PM0. This car was seen at the J15a services at around 10pm. However, Mr. Anxiang Du was observed by cctv at 2.27am in Venables Street, Westminster on Saturday 30th April. To date, Northant’s Police have not had any information leading them to the whereabouts of Mr. Du. Do you know where he is, or have any information that may assist in the arrest of this man. No matter how minor you may think your information may be, it could be the missing link. Please contact either your local police, Northant’s Police on 101 or if you know where he is telephone on 999. You may also contact ‘Crime-Stoppers’ on 0800 555 111. Please help us catch this man before he kills again.

Anxiang Du is 52/53 years of age, 5ft 9in tall and of slim build. Last seen wearing a white baseball cap, brown waist length coat, a blue wollen top, black shoes and he was carrying a yellow rucksack.

A drop of 32% in burglary, robbery and vehicle crime compared to the previous two years. 7,785 fewer offences and 3,626 arrests were made. This is partially due to ‘partnership working’. Partners including Neighbourhood Watch members. Well done to one and all for such a successful effort. NHW members must continue their good work and strengthening our partnership by reporting criminal activity, along with providing the police with information on those within our communities who commit crime.

On Monday evening May 16th 2011, the Northampton Area Support Team ‘N-AST’, held its annual general meeting at Northant’s Police Headquarters. Although the turnout was not as high as last year, the evening was very productive. The committee took great pleasure in launching the official Northampton NHW website, along with placing new recently obtained presentation equipment on display. This equipment was provided as a result of two donations specifically to enable N-AST lead Coordinators to carry out NHW scheme set-up presentations to members of the public. Territorial Commander Chief Inspector Fay Tennet gave a presentation regarding her new job role within Northant’s Police, Fay herself being a Coordinator of an NHW scheme. Inspector Steve Lingley gave a presentation on ‘Operation Guardian’. Both presentations were warmly received and appreciated. Area Manager John Jones of ‘Smartwater’ was also in attendance to provide information on the affects and successes of this DNA property marking system. Anyone interested in this invaluable product should contact their scheme Coordinator. Please be aware that ‘Smartwater’ purchased through NHW is obtained at an incredibly good discount price. A number of Scheme Coordinators recently attended training with Northant’s Fire & Rescue Service qualifying them to carry out domestic fire safety checks which may also include the provision and fitment of smoke alarms. Anyone interested should contact ‘Comms’ on the contact us page.

Election of Officers was as follows:

Chair – David Triggs
Vice Chair - Brian Burnett
Treasurer – John Hunt
Secretary – Cathy Broughton
Communications & Publicity Officer – Stan Dean

David, Cathy, Brian and Stan were also elected as our county executive representatives.
